The first week

It's almost midnight, Sawyer is asleep and Chris is playing a video game. I decided to try and actually get some rest before he wakes up for his next feeding, but instead, here I am blogging. I'm gonna pay for this later. Oh well!!

I've taken TONS of pictures of Sawyer this week, but just my luck, I lost my transfer cord for my camera. I had it at the hospital, but we can't find it in ANY of the bags that we brought home and we called the birth center and they didn't find anything in my room. Personally, I just think they don't want to get down and check under the furniture in the room, but whatever. So now I've had to order a new cord that will HOPEFULLY be here by the end of the week. So new pictures soon!! Just not soon enough. So I'm gonna post a few more that we took while we were still in the hospital.

So where do I begin with the story telling? I don't want to drag on forever and bore everybody, but that's kind of one of the things that I'm really good at: talking way too much. So here we go.

This was the easiest c-section that I've had so far. I was really nervous going into it. I'm such a pessimistic person, I always think of all of the bad things that could happen. It seemed to go really fast. I had the best nurse by my side from the time that we got there and she stayed with me throughout my time in the recovery room. She was also the one who took care of me on my last morning and checked me out of the hospital. Her name was Cara and she was awesome. I wish that I would have taken a picture of her and Sawyer together.

I took the advice of my friend Bobbie and refused the "anti-itching" medication that they offered me, and I'm so glad that I did. Though the itching from the spinal block did drive me crazy until the next morning, it was worth it because I wasn't completely blacked out in a stupor from the extra meds. I didn't throw up during the surgery like I did the last time, but I DID puke pretty much the rest of the day. I think 5 or 6 times. And let me tell you, dry heaving hours after your stomach was sliced open, is not the most comfortable thing in the world to go through. The worst was at the end of the night. Chris went downstairs to meet a friend of ours and bring him up to the room, my nurse had just come and given me a new IV bag, and left me in the room alone. I felt the nausea coming right as she shut the door, grabbed my little barf bag, held it up to the side of my face, and completely missed my target. I had puke all over the front of me. All I was able to eat was some jello, apple juice and a couple of crackers, but when it's all over the front of your chest and down into your sheets, it seems like a lot more. I went to reach for my call button to get the nurse back to help me, but the controller was about 5 feet away on the couch. So I had to sit there for 5 or so minutes until Chris got back, covered in vomit and crying. Good times.

Sawyer was absolutly perfect. His brothers both had breathing problems and had to be kept in the ICU for days before they could go home, but he had no problems whatsoever, so he was immediatly put in the room with us. He pretty much hasn't left my side since he's been born. It was such a blessing. We were really worried that he would have the same issues and were overjoyed when he was given a clean bill of health. He did have a little rash thing that made him super zitty on his face, have little chicken pox looking marks all over his body, red patches all over, and there was one night where his little eyes were so swollen shut, he looked like a boxer after a bad loss. But that was gone after the first couple of days.

The recovery this time was much easier in the hospital and I only had to stay for 3 nights. I could have come home after 2, but they gave me the option of staying longer, and I took it. I kind of wish that they would have let me stay a little longer :S Being at home the first couple of days was really rough and I started to kind of get a little depressed. But Sunday was a turn around day for me and it's been great since then.
Breastfeeding this time has been a bit different and a heck of a lot more painful. I know it's going to get easier, but sometimes, it just kills me and I want to give up. I won't though, because I want to give Sawyer the best that I can. So I'll go through it for him. He took to breastfeeding right away. Within 30 minutes of his birth, we were in the recovery room, Chris handed him to me, I put him in position, and BOOM, he knew just what to do. He is a little pro at it. But that's where the problem has been. With the other boys, they were on feeding tubes for the first few days and so I had to pump and the nurses would give it to them through their tubes. By the time they got the the part where they had to eat on their own, my body was ready for them. Since he's taken to it on his own, it's been EXTREMELY painful trying to get my breasts used to the feedings. Sometimes it's worse than others, and it's only for the first minute or so of each feeding, but in that first minute, sometimes I feel like I'm going to pass out. I've tried the cremes, the cold compress, the heating pad, the shield, everything. Time is the only thing that's going to make it better. So like I said, I just have to wait it out.

I'm so glad that he's finally here. He is absolutly perfect in every way. I can't believe how small he is! I got so big during my pregnancy, I expected him to be a little beast, but he's so dinky!! Aparently I had a lot of fluid in there. That's what they were saying when they were cleaning up after the surgery anyway. We are overjoyed that we have another angel in our family. With that being said though, I miss being pregnant!! I miss my big belly, I miss that "glow" that I had, I miss the cute belly hugging tops. The belly has mutated back into a saggy, flabby stomach, the cute clothes have turned into a daily uniform of sweat pants and a granny style nightgown, and my pregnant glow has been replaced by a wild haired, worn out, black circles under my eyes, haggard, run down, drained mommy dullness. Don't get me wrong, I was tired of being pregnant and was in a lot of pain towards the end, and I don't plan on doing it again anytime soon, but when we do decide to have the next one, I'll gladly embrace the experience.

So this first week has been filled with highs and lows. We're all adjusting to the new change in our family. It's been much easier with Chris home to help out, and he does more than his share (he's changed 10 times more diapers than I have). I'm so blessed to have such an amazing husband. Luckily Brandon is on Spring Break this week too, so that's one less thing for us to worry about right now. The boys are doing great with the baby and Logan just wants to hold him all the time. We've even found a way to include them in some of the "baby chores". They like to put the diapers in the nifty diaper pail that we have. They're great big brothers. I showed them how to use one of my digital cameras so they could take their own pictures of the baby and I thought it would be fun to chronicle this time in our lives from their point of view. Unfortunatly they seem to have more fun taking pictures of things like the TV rather than feedings or bath times. I'm looking forward to loading up the photos though and seeing what they've caught. Hopefully they'll be a few keepers.
Ok, I think that's enough babbling for now. For the few of you that stuck around to read this whole blog, thanks!! And I hope I didn't gross you out too much with some of the gorey details. Keep checking back for new pics. Like I said, hopefully the new cord will be here by the weekend. Until then, here a few more from the hospital.

He's Here!

So everything went great. Both Sawyer and myself are doing wonderful. He didn't have any problems breathing like his big brothers did. He took right to breastfeeding like a pro. He looks just Logan did but Logan was a little pudgier. So here are a few of the photos that we've taken so far. There will plenty more to come in the next couple of days!

Geez! You'd think we were having a baby or something!!

I've got everything ready to go for the baby. I decided to take pictures of some of the baby stuff taking over our house. Can you tell I'm running out of ways to waste time before he gets here?

This is the most adorable bouncer EVER!! I love the colors
This is the car seat that Grandma Shellie bought. It comes with a matching stroller and I absolutely adore it. I love the black and lime green.

The clothes always seem only big enough for a doll, but then when the baby comes, they are still too big on them! This is just a drawer full of SOME of the stuff that we've got for the first couple of months. I've got 2 boxes still full of 3 months and beyond too. This kid won't run out of clothes anytime soon.

I think these diapers should get us through the first week or so ;) And on top of all of those wipes we still have another box with 8 more refill packs still in the back of the van. Wipes: we've got that covered.
This is one of the blankets and a matching sweater that great-grandma Lynda made for Sawyer.

Here are the other blankets that she's made for him.

These blankets are gifts from the boys. They picked out the fabric and I sewed them together. Brandon picked out the bug material and wanted the brown backing. Logan was dead set on a yellow and pink cupcake print, and it took Brandon and myself about 20 minutes of begging and pleading to change his mind. He finally decided on the boats. Wasn't my favorite in the store, but after the cupcake ordeal, I couldn't fight him anymore.
These are handmade burp clothes that I've been working on. I'm in love with them. One side is flannel and the other side is terrycloth. The are awesome and I can't wait to clean up baby puke with them!! Gross, I know.

The final countdown...

There are only 3 1/2 more days to get through before Sawyer is here. And we are ready to go!! I just finished putting together his diaper bag. It's loaded with all sorts of clothes and blankets for his arrival. I've been doing as much as I can around the house to get ready to bring him home. It's been kind of hard since I'm supposed to be resting as much as possible right now and can't stand for more than a few minutes at a time. By the time the night comes I'm ready to collapse and can't comfortably sleep. It hurts to walk, it hurts to sit, it hurts to lay down. I'm dealing with something called Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction. You can read about it here if you're interested http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symphysis_pubis_dysfunction It's made the last month of this pregnancy very hard and I REALLY hope that I don't have to go through it again. All I can do though is keep charging on through. Luckily Chris has been able to work from home the past couple of weeks and help out with the boys. I've been taking a lot of naps and getting as much rest as possible.

I had my final doctor's appointment on Monday, complete with an ultrasound. I got to see his little face and he of course is sporting the "Date" chin like his daddy and brothers. And he is still a "he". We had a friend who was expecting a girl, give birth to a boy a few weeks ago, so I made sure that the ultrasound technician double checked the sex for me. They've estimated that his weight will be slightly over 8 pounds. I don't know how much I believe that though. This kid feels HUGE and he's still beating me up from the inside all day long!! He's a strong little guy.

I've done this surgery thing twice before, but I'm still scared out of my mind. I think I'm more nervous about the recovery process than the actual c-section. I just keep thinking of all that could go wrong. I know that's not the way to approach the situation, but that's just the kind of person that I am. I'm a constant worrier. I'm most scared of my doctor telling me that I won't be able to have more kids after this one. That's always a possibility and if that were to happen it would be devastating. But then again, God has blessed us with 3 wonderful boys, and if that's all that he wants us to have, then he'll let us know. But please just pray for us that all goes well.

Stay tuned next week for the first pictures of Sawyer. I may be in the hospital most of next week, but I'll try and have Chris bring the laptop down for me so I can upload pics and put together a blog to post. And thank you to everybody that has been there with us for this exciting time in our family's life. We are so blessed to know all of you and have you in our lives. We love you guys.

My Little Logi Bear

My posts lately (the few that I HAVE been posting at least) have seemed to focus on Brandon. So tonight while Daddy and Brandon were at Cub Scouts, Logan was taking a bath and I decided to snap some pictures of him. If there are two things that Logan loves, it's taking baths and having "photo shoots". He LOVES having his picture taken. So here is a couple pics of my cutie haming it up. I can't believe he's almost 4!

It finally came out!!

Today on the way home from school Brandon told me that while he was eating his apple at lunch his tooth got moved around a lot and felt like it was going to come out soon. So I saw that as a mission to get that thing out of his mouth.

First we tried to get it out with the old "string around the doorknob" trick. We went through 2 trials of that but I only had yarn, and it kept slipping of the tooth, so we threw that idea out the window. Then he wanted to try breaking it off in an apple, but the only apples we had were kinda soft, and he was scared to bite down too hard. Then he tried just using his fingers to pull it out, but that was just too tramatic for him. He just couldn't get himself to pull hard enough.

I finally called my aunt who lives a few minutes from us and asked if she had any string. Real string, not fuzzy mulitcolored yarn. So we made a quick trip over to her place to pick it up, we came home and Brandon agreed to just one more try with the doorknob. He was not happy with the idea, but I think he was just sick of me bugging him about it. So we tied him up, took a pic of his miserable little face, and slammed the door. Out popped the tooth!! He didn't even notice that it had come out until he felt the empty spot with his tongue. He was completely shocked that it didn't hurt.

After we got the bleeding to stop with some salt water, he was ready to pose for pictures. And then he started asking a million questions about the Tooth Fairy: "What time does she come", "How big is she" , "What does she use the teeth for" , "How does she get in the house" , "How does she get the tooth out from under my pillow without waking me up?" That is the question that I'm asking myself. I just KNOW he's going to wake up when I try to get that tooth out, or I'm not going to be able to find it or something. I'm so nervous!!

So here are the pics of my little toothless baby. Oh yeah, and there's already another loose one!!

Pinewood Derby

Last Saturday was the Pinewood Derby and the Blue & Gold banquet for Brandon's cub scout troop. After many, many..........many, many races, Brandon's car came in 3rd place!! For awhile he was in 1st, but during the second half of the derby, his car started to slow down a bit. He was just as happy with 3rd though.

Our Valentine's Day

Chris and I decided to make Valentine's day about the boys this year. I made special pancakes with a little "love" sprinkled on top for breakfast, then the boys got to ransack the candy bags I put together for them. Chris took them to the swimming pool at the Y for a little while, and we had a dinner out at the Rainforest Cafe.
It was a nice day. Unfortunatly though, it ended with Brandon being sick and now he's spending today on the couch looking miserable. Poor kid. Oh yeah, and the tooth is still attached to his gums!!! It's still moving, but he says it hurts when he tries to wiggle it, so he doesn't want to make any progress on it :( I'll get that thing out if it kills me!!

TOOTH WATCH...'09!!!

So Brandon FINALLY has a wiggly tooth. One of his bottom front teeth is wobbling around. We hope it comes out in the next few days. I just keep telling him to wiggle it when ever he can. My poor kid has been the only one in his class since Kindergarten that still has all his baby teeth. He used to come home and say "_____ lost a tooth yesterday and a got a sticker on the tooth chart." By the end of each year, his has been the only name that doesn't have a sticker next to it. It kills me! Everybody keeps telling me that the longer he keeps his baby teeth, the less cavities he'll have. He didn't get any teeth at all until after he was 12 months old, so I realize that this is just something that happens, but still. For the past 2 years, he'll just out of the blue start playing with his teeth and say "I THINK I can feel this one moving a little." Wishful thinking. But now it's finally happening!! I think I'm more excited than he is. So as soon as that thing pops out, you can be sure that the camera will be snapping away and I'll get right on here and post about it. I CAN'T WAIT!!

Coming up on 32 weeks

Honestly, I don't know how I'm still standing upright. I think I'm defying the laws of physics or gravity or something. I constantly feel like I'm going to topple over. This pregnancy thing has been fun and all, but I'm ready for these last couple of months to fly by. Though I really don't think that's going to happen. Oh well, it's worth all the sleepless nights and sore muscles :D

A busy but uneventful week

Sorry I haven't posted for almost a week and a half. I'm horrible. There just hasn't really been a whole lot going on here lately. We've had a full schedule with all of the normal busy days and nights (airsoft, Cub Scouts, Church, school, American Idol ;) etc, etc.), but nothing exciting is happening.

Logan was sick at the beginning of the week again. Now he's got a little raw spot under one side of his nose from wiping it too much. And then today he was laying on the floor watching Blue's Clues before school and the dog ran by him, or I should say ON him, and gave him a big scratch across his cheek. So his face looks all kinds of banged up. Poor kid.

Oh yeah, we finally got a replacement for Logan's dead fish. This one is all black, the same type of fish that Lemonhead is, and Logan named him Mr. Bean because his belly looks like a big jellybean. I'm glad to say that he is still alive after a week.

I've had a couple of people ask about the layoffs at Microsoft and the security of Chris' job. We are very happy to say that (for at least the next year) his job is not in any kind of jeopardy. Praise God! I spent a little while yesterday morning crying and praying like a mad woman until he called me and let me know it was all going to be okay. They are unfortunately going to cut raises after reviews this year though to help with costs. But we'll take a raise cut over a job loss any day!

Tonight Chris is attending an event at a friend's church in Seattle, so he won't be home until pretty late. So it's just me and my boys tonight with a pizza and a copy of Kung Fu Panda (Logan picked it out even though they've seen it a million times before, how can kids do that?!). We've got a pretty relaxing weekend planned: a lot of sitting at home doing nothing!!

We hope everybody has a great weekend and I promise to try and update this more often. Try being the operative word there.

What I've Learned.......

I couple of years ago I was involved with a scrapbook group and was assigned a page titled "What I've Learned.....". I decided to focus on what I've learned as a mom. I came across the typed out text that I wrote for the page and thought it was cute so I'm posting it here to share.

1. Band-aids and a kiss really DO make it feel better.

2. The words "no" and "stop" are foreign to a child. Unless of course they're the ones screaming them at you.

3. The human body can function just fine on 3 hours of sleep a night.

4. You can watch Blue's Clues 863 times before going clinically insane, but the Doodle-Bops only takes 7.

5. The box that the $75 toy came in will see more playtime than the actual toy itself.

6. The best way to get crayon off of the wall is with a Mr Clean Magic Eraser.

7. A shower is a privilage, not a right.

8. A child's favorite game is tag, especially when it's played in the grocery store parking lot and you're "it".

9. Always bring your own magazine to the emergency room. Their selection is never that good.

10. "I love you, Mommy" will make your heart ache everytime you hear it.

My THREE Boys

The boys did a little photoshoot with me tonight. We set up a little studio in the master bathroom, put the camera on self timer and took way too many pictures. Here are a few of the better ones. Oh yeah, and I'm just a couple days shy of 28 weeks. I'm HUGE!!! And my fingers are too swollen to wear my wedding ring anymore :(

Photography

Just in case anybody wants to check out some of my VERY amateur photography, you can go to my Flickr account and see some of it. Here is the link http://www.flickr.com/photos/25522162@N03/ Or you can click the link on the right hand side of this blog.

I've always loved taking pictures and finally got my dream camera last April thanks to my amazing husband. Family and friends always ask me to do their photos and I always try to fit it in. I wish I had more time. There were actually 3 weddings that I had the opportunity to shoot this spring, but ALL of them are taking place around the time Sawyer will be arriving. So I'll just have to settle for attending them as a guest.

It always seems like as soon as I get back into my photography, another addition to our growing family comes along and puts it on hold again. Which really is OK with me, because it's just another subject to take million photos of.

Our new fishy friends

For Christmas Chris and I got the boys a fish tank for their bedroom. So on Friday we went to Petco and they finally got to pick out 2 fish each. It killed them having to wait the full 2 days to let the tank adjust before we could add the fish. Unfortunatly, one of the fish didn't make it through the first night. Right when we got the bag home we saw what was wrong: when the guy at the store was putting the fish into the bag, he squished the poor little thing's fin and it was all crunched up. It was one of Logan's fish, he was all black with light marbley white patterns. Logan named him Batman. We are going to get a replacement Batman soon. We just want the other fish to have a week or so to get fully adjusted before we add another. So here are the fish! Well, the remaining ones anyway.

This is Lemonhead, one of Brandon's fish. He's bright yellow but it's hard to tell in this pic. He was picked because of his cool "mohawk" fin.

The spotty fish on the left is Logan's other fish, Sheldon. The white fish with the red head is Brandon's 2nd fish, Robin.

Pukie Update

It's now a little after 7am. Logan finally went to sleep at almost 6am, Brandon has since thrown up twice, and the dog has the runs and is pooping all over the house. The smell is wonderful in this place. I can barely keep my eyes open and I have a strong feeling it's just gonna be one of those days. Thank God school starts back up on Monday!!

Just one of those nights...

At about 3:50am we had a knock on our bedroom door and a big brother yelling "Logan puked!!". So up I jump (well, as much as a pregnant lady can jump) out of bed. When I went into their room, Logan was sitting up on his bed with his little hands open, a smear of puke down his chin, crying in a pool of vomit. So I pulled him up, got him to the bathroom and into the shower. While he cleaned up in there, I took the carpet cleaner and a towel and washed his bed, threw the blankets into the washing machine, and took the dead fish out of the tank and flushed him (and no, the dead fish has nothing to do with the puking, just thought I'd throw that in). We got him all scrubbed up, teeth brushed, and now he's sitting on the couch watching Blue's Clues. Hopefully he'll feel like going back to bed before 5am, because I can barely keep my eyes open.

I asked him why he didn't get out of bed to puke in the toilet. Our boys are welled trained in running to the bathroom before they let loose. He said he wanted me to take him this time. He remarked with little droopy eyes "Mommy, didn't you hear me when I yelled for you?" I had to explain that it's a little hard to hear when I'm asleep on the other side of the house between two closed doors. Apparently his throat was itchy and it just came out. Now Brandon is saying he doesn't feel good, but I think he just wants to sit out here and watch TV with us. And of course I'm letting him. I really hope this is the end of the throwing up for now. I hate when my babies are miserable.

I want to try and include pictures with every post, so here are a couple of Logan sick in the past. My poor little guy :(
Brandon trying to make his little brother feel better. 11/05

We had to take Logan to the emergency room for breathing treatments. I ended up staying for 2 nights with him in the hospital. It was so sad. 3/06

Auntie came to visit and snuggled with Logan. He didn't like his hospital "cage" crib. 3/06

When he doesn't feel good, he can drop into a deep sleep where ever he is. This time it was watching TV with Chester. 4/07

Good Behavior Rewarded

Brandon and Grandma Shellie have an agreement: for every full month that he is good at school and home (that means EVERYDAY), Brandon gets a special treat from Grandma. So finally, after a lot of hard work, he did it! Brandon filled up a full month on his sticker calender, and Grandma made good with her promise. So we all spent an afternoon at Chuck E. Cheese's, courtesy of Grandma.
The boys had a lot of fun playing with Grandma, Grandpa Harold, and Daddy. And I spent a lot of time sitting at the table with a sore pregnant back and chowing down on pizza.
Grandma loves her boys!!

Brandon's hardwork finally paying off. Way to go B!!

Logan winning the Kentucky Derby.

Grandpa conquering the popcorn catcher game.

Brandon teaching Logan the best way to cheat the basket game. I'm so proud :S

Chris and his little cup of tokens.

Feeding the ticket monster.

Brandon collected over 300 tickets!
